A partly retired journalist, author of 11 sporting books, and historian for the St Kilda Football Club, Russell will explore how a suburban Melbourne competition grew into Australia's largest sporting code. He'll examine the parallels and contrasts between the game played in 1897 and the AFL we know today, bringing to life the people, stories and milestones that shaped the sport.

Russell will also delve into the local connection, highlighting the rich historical and contemporary ties between the St Kilda Football Club and Moorabbin, offering a unique perspective on a sporting relationship that remains significant to the Kingston community.
